Eldridge will get another shot after batting .333/.445/.518 for Sacramento, but his return really complicates things, what with his replacement, Casey Schmitt, being arguably the Giants’ best player to date. All of the team’s veteran infielders are used to being everyday players, and it’s hard to imagine any will be happy sitting once or twice per week to make room for Eldridge at first and DH, even if it’s the right call for the team. Rodriguez has started at catcher, second base and in left field this year, so he offers a lot more versatility than Eldridge and will be an easier fit. Still, we’re not sure either rates a pickup in mixed leagues at this point. Eldridge has the potential, but he’ll stay the bench against lefties and possibly the occasional righty.
  • NYY Shortstop #11
José Caballero has been playing well of late, though Statcast thinks he’s been very lucky with his solid .321 wOBA and poor .269 xwOBA. Meanwhile, Volpe has been hitting the ball hard — nine times in four Triple-A games — with middling results on his rehab assignment. That’s just a bad combination for Volpe, and the Yankees are obviously putting more weight on the actual numbers than the expected ones. Volpe should be the better player going forward, and the Yankees probably will give him another chance, perhaps as soon as a couple of weeks from now.
  • MIA Catcher #50
Doing this but sticking with Chris Paddack is a choice. Ramírez, though, isn’t doing enough offensively to justify putting up with his defense, even if he has shown some improvement there this year. Mack is a weaker bet than Ramírez on offense, but he’s an excellent defensive catcher who takes walks and hits the occasional homer. He’s batting .244/.388/.378 in Triple-A. Liam Hicks and Mack figure to split time behind the plate, with Hicks also serving as a DH. Mack won’t get Ramírez’s DH at-bats, so that could open some playing time for Christopher Morel.
  • CHC 1st Baseman #29
Busch had a big day at the plate on Sunday, starting with a double and a run scored in the second inning. After drawing a walk in the third, he drove in three runs with a bases-loaded triple in the fifth. Busch would drive in a fourth run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh. The 28-year-old first baseman is hitting .218/.317/.339 with two homers, 15 runs scored, and 17 RBI across 145 plate appearances.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #70
It’s a wonder how Wrobleski continues to get the job done despite a lack of strikeouts. He had another excellent day on the mound, holding the Cardinals scoreless over six frames. He scattered six hits and one walk with zero strikeouts. The 25-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 1.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 15/10 K/BB ratio across 36 innings. Wrobleski lines up for a home start against the Braves next Sunday.
  • TB 1st Baseman #8
Aranda collected base hits in the first, sixth, and eighth innings before the game went to extras tied at 1-1. He delivered with his fourth hit of the game, driving in Chandler Simpson to walk it off for the Rays. The 27-year-old first baseman is hitting .252/.352/.462 with seven homers, 17 runs scored, and 28 RBI across 142 plate appearances.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #44
Many of Luzardo’s troubles this season have come when runners get on base. He allowed the first two batters to reach in the second inning, then struck out the following two and induced a flyout to escape the jam. He held the Marlins scoreless through six before giving up a two-run homer to Esteury Ruiz in the seventh. Luzardo’s day would be done with one out in the seventh at 102 pitches. He generated 16 whiffs to strike out ten batters. The 28-year-old left-hander will look to keep chipping away at his ratios when he takes a 5.09 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 51/9 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings into a start against the Rockies in Philadelphia on Friday.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #26
Just a bit of a step forward for Hancock. His previous career high for strikeouts was nine, and he’d never topped seven prior to this season. He didn’t overwhelm with his 31 percent CSW tonight, but the Royals couldn’t string hits together while combining for eight total bases in seven innings. Hancock’s 2.59 ERA is going to force the Mariners to make a tough decision when Bryce Miller is activated. It seems clear now that Hancock would be the better choice than Luis Castillo for the fifth spot in their rotation. Hancock is slated to face the White Sox next.
  • ATL Right Fielder #13
Acuña left Saturday’s game with the hamstring injury, and Atlanta will make sure there’s no structural damage. There’s a good chance that the 28-year-old won’t be in the lineup Sunday regardless, but fantasy managers need to be prepared for a potential extended absence.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #51
Sale was exceptional, generating 20 swings-and-misses while giving up just two hits and three walks. The left-hander did allow six hard-hit balls, but it sure didn’t feel like it while throwing 70-of-102 pitches for strikes. That’s 20 strikeouts over his last two games, and his ERA has dwindled to 2.14 with a 49/12 K/BB ratio. Sale has a marquee matchup coming Friday, as he’ll take on the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
