  • NYM Relief Pitcher #38

Williams heads to the shelf after registering a disappointing 4.66 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 51/21 K/BB ratio across 38 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old has converted just 16 of his 19 save chances this season. A quick glance under the hood reveals a more palatable 3.29 xERA and a bloated .388 BABIP, but his Mets debut has been an unmitigated disaster. His absence thrusts New York into a closer by committee situation with Kodai Senga and Daniel Duarte as the most likely candidates to inherit save opportunities, with rookie lefty Nate Lavender representing a dark horse for the role.
  • PHI Designated Hitter #12
Schwarber hadnโ€™t homered since July 18, but his two long balls on Sunday tied him with Yordan Alvarez for the MLB lead at 35. He also regained sole possession of the National League lead. The veteran DH is striking out quite a bit more than usual this season, which is something to monitor as he approaches his mid-30s. However, he still has his power stroke and remains capable of getting hot at the plate down the stretch.
  • KC Right Fielder #14
Itโ€™s Caglianoneโ€™s fifth career two-homer game and second with two doubles and, obviously, his first with two of both. Rather surprisingly, heโ€™s the first player this year with four extra-base hits in a game. 13 players did it last year, with Nick Kurtz even managing five in his four-homer game. Caglianone, though, is the first Royal with four extra-base hits in a game since Kendrys Morales in 2015. Caglianoneโ€™s hits ranged from 104.9 mph to 111.9 mph. He now has 20 homers and 21 doubles in the season.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #82
Smith is ostensibly up with Chicago as emergency long relief depth behind veteran starters Anthony Kay and Davis Martin for the remainder of their weekend against the Guardians after a mistake by manager Will Venable forced Noah Schultz to exit after just 23 pitches on Friday night. The 22-year-old southpaw was selected fifth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft and misses bats at an incredible rate, thanks to a wicked slider that comes at hitters from a three-quarters arm slot. He remains a project from a mechanics and arsenal development standpoint, which leaves some questions regarding his ultimate role. He misses enough bats to matter for fantasy purposes, whether he sticks as a starter or winds up in the bullpen down the road. His odds of making a significant fantasy impact right away are extremely long.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #70
One of the two hits was a solo homer by Tyler Soderstrom that just skirted over the short right-center fence at Fenway, and that accounted for all the damage done tonight. Tolleโ€™s stuff ticked up a notch or two today, as he touched 99.5 mph and averaged 97.6 on his four-seamer. He achieved whiffs on a stunning 24-of-49 swings by the Athletics. Heโ€™ll look to keep it rolling against the Blue Jays in what is currently slated to be a matchup with All-Star Game starter Dylan Cease.
  • FA General Manager
They announced it as a mutual parting of ways, Ken Rosenthal and the rest of baseball announced it as a firing. Regardless, the search for a new head of baseball operations in Sacramento will begin. Forst had been the GM since October 2015. The Athletics never advanced past the ALDS in that timespan, though they did win 97 games two years in a row in 2018 and 2019 before payroll constraints tore that team apart.
  • Culpepper is the Twinsโ€™ second-ranked prospect and the 29th-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He has a .271 average with 14 home runs, 46 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 74 games for Triple-A St. Paul this season, but has gone 11-for-40 (.275) in 10 games since returning from a glute injury in mid-July. Culpepper is one of the highest-ranked prospect hitters weโ€™re likely to see called up this summer and has a power/speed combination thatโ€™s worth a gamble in most fantasy leagues.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #30
Once again, Skenes was simply not sharp here. His command was a mess as he walked four batters for the second straight start. Those woes were most apparent with his fastball. He simply could not find the zone with it and missed too many of his spots by a wide margin. In turn, he threw his second-lowest rate of fastballs in any start this season. Yet, it was only the second time over the last two months where that pitchโ€™s average velocity stretched back above 97 mph. It was also his first time in 10 starts where he threw multiple pitches above 98 mph. Is his arm tired? Are his mechanics out of whack because heโ€™s trying to reach back and find more velocity? We simply donโ€™t know, but this is more than just a poor stretch now. Skenes has a 6.14 ERA over his last seven starts and the Pirates are an unthinkable 3-12 in his last 15. Heโ€™s scheduled for a two-start week coming up against the Marlins and Red Sox as he desperately tries to get back on track.
  • CHC Center Fielder #4
Crow-Armstrong and Shohei Ohtani, the NL MVP front-runners at the moment, had nearly identical games from the DH spot today; both went 3-for-5 with leadoff homers in the first and a two-run homers later on. They were even the 25th and 26th homers of the season for both. The difference, though, was that PCAโ€™s third hit was an RBI double, whereas Othaniโ€™s was an RBI-less single. Crow-Armstrong is now hitting .288/.386/.552, putting him in fourth place in the majors in OPS. He has three two-homer games this season and nine for his career.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #41
Shelton added that Ryan is headed back to Minnesota due to back and glute issues, which puts his availability for Sundayโ€™s start against the Brewers in obvious jeopardy. The ongoing physical issues, which are impacting his ability to repeat his delivery, certainly explain his recent struggles as heโ€™s allowed a staggering 17 runs โ€” 16 earned โ€” over 15 1/3 innings across three starts since the All-Star break. There should be some much-needed clarity on his status and outlook later this week.
