They announced it as a mutual parting of ways, Ken Rosenthal and the rest of baseball announced it as a firing. Regardless, the search for a new head of baseball operations in Sacramento will begin. Forst had been the GM since October 2015. The Athletics never advanced past the ALDS in that timespan, though they did win 97 games two years in a row in 2018 and 2019 before payroll constraints tore that team apart.
  • Culpepper is the Twinsโ€™ second-ranked prospect and the 29th-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He has a .271 average with 14 home runs, 46 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 74 games for Triple-A St. Paul this season, but has gone 11-for-40 (.275) in 10 games since returning from a glute injury in mid-July. Culpepper is one of the highest-ranked prospect hitters weโ€™re likely to see called up this summer and has a power/speed combination thatโ€™s worth a gamble in most fantasy leagues.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #30
Once again, Skenes was simply not sharp here. His command was a mess as he walked four batters for the second straight start. Those woes were most apparent with his fastball. He simply could not find the zone with it and missed too many of his spots by a wide margin. In turn, he threw his second-lowest rate of fastballs in any start this season. Yet, it was only the second time over the last two months where that pitchโ€™s average velocity stretched back above 97 mph. It was also his first time in 10 starts where he threw multiple pitches above 98 mph. Is his arm tired? Are his mechanics out of whack because heโ€™s trying to reach back and find more velocity? We simply donโ€™t know, but this is more than just a poor stretch now. Skenes has a 6.14 ERA over his last seven starts and the Pirates are an unthinkable 3-12 in his last 15. Heโ€™s scheduled for a two-start week coming up against the Marlins and Red Sox as he desperately tries to get back on track.
  • CHC Center Fielder #4
Crow-Armstrong and Shohei Ohtani, the NL MVP front-runners at the moment, had nearly identical games from the DH spot today; both went 3-for-5 with leadoff homers in the first and a two-run homers later on. They were even the 25th and 26th homers of the season for both. The difference, though, was that PCAโ€™s third hit was an RBI double, whereas Othaniโ€™s was an RBI-less single. Crow-Armstrong is now hitting .288/.386/.552, putting him in fourth place in the majors in OPS. He has three two-homer games this season and nine for his career.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #41
Shelton added that Ryan is headed back to Minnesota due to back and glute issues, which puts his availability for Sundayโ€™s start against the Brewers in obvious jeopardy. The ongoing physical issues, which are impacting his ability to repeat his delivery, certainly explain his recent struggles as heโ€™s allowed a staggering 17 runs โ€” 16 earned โ€” over 15 1/3 innings across three starts since the All-Star break. There should be some much-needed clarity on his status and outlook later this week.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #21
As former Yankees manager Joe Girardi was fond of saying, itโ€™s not what you want. Greeneโ€™s sudden departure from Cincinnatiโ€™s rotation comes with a lack of certainty regarding the severity of the issue and whether heโ€™ll require another surgical procedure. Heโ€™s scheduled to meet with renowned surgeon Dr. Neal El Attrache in Los Angeles later this week. The hard-throwing 26-year-old has struggled to an inflated 6.83 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 33/9 K/BB ratio across 27 2/3 innings since returning from surgery to remove bone chips and loose bodies from his pitching elbow back on July 4. There should be some much-needed clarity regarding his next steps in the coming days. At this point, itโ€™s challenging for fantasy managers to justify stashing him, especially in shallow formats.
  • MIL Shortstop
McCalvy reports that the Brewersโ€™ initial proposal โ€œwas also three prospects, according to sources. All three were hitters, and at least two were Top 100 prospects.โ€ While McCalvy is unsure exactly which three names were in the final proposal, he reports that โ€œone of them was shortstop Luis Peรฑa,โ€ who is the18th-ranked prospect on MLB Pipelineโ€™s Top 100. This season, Peรฑa is hitting .308/.396/.447 in 45 games between Single-A and High-A with two home runs, 19 RBI, and 22 steals. The Brewers must have been comfortable enough with the recent performance of Cooper Pratt to deal Peรฑa, but the Tigers went in another direction. Perhaps they preferred Zyhir Hopeโ€™s upside or wanted a pitching prospect like River Ryan. Those are the answers weโ€™re unlikely to ever get.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
The latest report was that the Blue Jays were still waiting on MRI results, but itโ€™s clear that they felt Yesavage would not be a good bet to make his next start or the one after. The Blue Jays didnโ€™t fully sell at the deadline, but their playoff hopes remain slim, so they may not be inclined to rush Yesavage and have him pitch at less than 100 percent. Weโ€™ll wait for the MRI results before we know more about how long he will be sidelined.
  • CLE Shortstop #73
It certainly seems like franchise cornerstone Josรฉ Ramรญrez is headed back to the injured list with inflammation in his surgically repaired left wrist. However, that hasnโ€™t been confirmed. Genao is an interesting prospect because heโ€™s adept at making contact, makes excellent swing decisions and boasts slightly above-average pop. The 22-year-old switch-hitting infielder launched two homers during Tuesdayโ€™s contest at Triple-A Columbus and is hitting .300/.401/.474 with 13 round-trippers and 11 steals in 96 games in the upper minors this season. Heโ€™ll presumably get the call for Wednesdayโ€™s contest against the Mets as Cleveland continues to push even more metaphorical chips into the center of the table in an effort to win the AL Central. Genao is worthy of a speculative roster spot in all fantasy formats based on his talent alone.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #21
Jobe will draw into Detroitโ€™s new-look rotation following the departures of Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize at the trade deadline when they kick off a three-game series in San Francisco later this week. The hard-throwing 24-year-old was one of the top pitching prospects in baseball in the not-so-distant past and will be making his return to the majors after missing most of the last two seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery. Heโ€™s struck out 17 batters over 15 1/3 innings during five minor league rehab outings. There are probably going to be some workload restrictions down the home stretch, but Jobe is the type of talent that fantasy managers should at the very least be monitoring closely.
