Of course he did. Murakami also didn’t strike out, which is nice to see from a player who has already whiffed 50 times. It’s tough to be mad at that strikeout total when you’re hitting the ball over the fence as often as he is, and he took José Soriano deep for his 14th homer of the campaign. There are going to be moments where Murakami’s swing-and-miss makes him a borderline unplayable option, but he’s at the very least proven that power he showed in Japan can certainly play at this level. This has been very impressive. Obvious point is obvious.
  • MIL Center Fielder #11
Chourio also walked. It was the first game of the season for Chourio after missing six weeks to begin the year due to a hand fracture, and outside of the fact that the Brewers didn’t win, it couldn’t have gone much better. Two of the hits were doubles, and both of those extra-base hits were clocked above 108 mph in exit velocity. Chourio probably won’t hit 1.000 on the year, but the 22-year-old offers enormous upside in his right-handed bat, and more games like this are likely.
  • SF 1st Baseman #8
It’s official. Eldridge is at DH and hitting seventh in his season debut against the division-rival Padres on Monday night at Oracle Park. The power-hitting 21-year-old top prospect struggled in his first taste of the big leagues last year, but he’s one of the most intriguing potential middle-of-the-order impact hitters to come through the minors in a few years. He’ll need to prove he can make enough contact and get to his immense raw power frequently enough to matter for fantasy purposes. He’s more of a deep-league lottery ticket at the moment, but he’s the type of elite talent that could make a leap very quickly if everything comes together for him.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #59
Duran will return to solidify the back-end of Philadelphia’s bullpen after missing just over two weeks with a left oblique strain. The electrifying 28-year-old stopper was off to a brilliant start this season with a microscopic 1.35 ERA across 6 2/3 innings of work. Fantasy managers should make sure to get him back in lineups this week.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #26
Just a bit of a step forward for Hancock. His previous career high for strikeouts was nine, and he’d never topped seven prior to this season. He didn’t overwhelm with his 31 percent CSW tonight, but the Royals couldn’t string hits together while combining for eight total bases in seven innings. Hancock’s 2.59 ERA is going to force the Mariners to make a tough decision when Bryce Miller is activated. It seems clear now that Hancock would be the better choice than Luis Castillo for the fifth spot in their rotation. Hancock is slated to face the White Sox next.
  • NYY Left Fielder #35
Bellinger’s first homer was a Yankee Stadium special that traveled just 363 feet, per Statcast, and would’ve been an out in every other stadium. His second against lefty reliever Keegan Akin in the fifth inning was a bit more definitive and gave New York a commanding 6-1 lead at the time. It was his second multi-homer performance of the season. He also plated an additional runs with a pair of additional hits, and added his fourth stolen base of the season, just for good measure.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher
No pressure. Gibson, the Orioles’ top pitching prospect, will make his major-league debut at Yankee Stadium, with Shane Baz likely pushed back to Monday. The 23-year-old right-hander is one of the more intriguing arms in the minors, but this is an extremely difficult spot for fantasy managers to trust him. He offers legitimate strikeout upside after posting a stellar 166/44 K/BB ratio across 120 1/3 innings at three levels in Baltimore’s system last season, giving him a path to immediate fantasy relevance. He’s talented enough to warrant a speculative roster spot in most formats, even if expectations should be tempered in this challenging matchup.
  • NYY Left Fielder #24
Domínguez is back at DH and hitting sixth after sitting out Friday’s series opener to undergo additional imaging on his left elbow, which didn’t reveal any fractures. The 23-year-old former top prospect suffered a contusion when he was hit by a pitch during Wednesday’s series finale against the Rangers. He’ll have an opportunity to show something against right-handed starters for at least a couple games while Giancarlo Stanton (calf) remains on the injured list.
  • CWS 3rd Baseman #5
Murakami’s blast off Padres starter Germán Márquez gave him sole position of first place league-wide with 13 homers. He’s also in the top 10 in RBI with 26 and walks with 27. In part because of those walks, he currently has an OPS more than four times his batting average (.967 to .239). That’s a feat accomplished just six times by batting-title qualifiers in MLB history: Mark McGwire in 1998 (70 HR) and ’99 (65 HR), Barry Bonds in 2001 (73 HR), Joey Gallo in 2017 and ’21 and Kyle Schwarber in 2023.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #21
The closer madness continues. Helsley had been one of the top performers in the league at the position, posting a 2.53 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 15/7 K/BB ratio over his first 10 2/3 innings while converting each of his first seven save chances. No word yet on the severity of the injury or on how long the Orioles expect their closer to be shelved for. Albert Suarez was promoted from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move on Friday.
